About Course

The White Card is a nationally recognised certificate required for anyone who works on a construction site in Victoria and across Australia. This one-day, face-to-face course provides the fundamental knowledge of work health and safety (WHS), hazard identification, risk management, and safe work practices for the construction industry.

Licensing & Compliance

  • ✅ Mandatory for all construction workers in Victoria and nationally
  • ✅ Must be delivered face-to-face by a WorkSafe Victoria approved RTO (online courses are not accepted in Victoria)
  • ✅ Course duration: minimum 6 hours
  • ✅ On successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment and later a plastic White Card issued by WorkSafe Victoria

Entry Requirements

  • ✅ Minimum age: 14 years
  • ✅ Must provide valid photographic ID at enrolment and on the day of training
  • ✅ Completion of pre-enrolment checks and forms

What the Training Covers

  • ✔ Basic WHS legislation and duty of care
  • ✔ Identifying construction site hazards and risks
  • ✔ Applying basic risk control measures
  • ✔ Procedures for responding to incidents and emergencies
  • ✔ Correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

After Completion

  • ✅ Issued with a Statement of Attainment on the day (temporary proof for up to 60 days)
  • ✅ Your official White Card will be mailed directly from WorkSafe Victoria (within 60 days)
  • ✅ Recognised across Victoria and all states/territories in Australia

How to Confirm the Right Course

When booking with an RTO, confirm:

  • ✅ The unit of competency is CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry
  • ✅ The course is delivered face-to-face (not online)
  • ✅ Minimum course duration is 6 hours
  • ✅ You must provide photo ID to enrol and attend
  • ✅ WorkSafe Victoria will issue your White Card after completion

Examples of Non-Approved Courses

  • ❌ Online White Card courses (these are not valid in Victoria)
  • ❌ Providers not listed as an approved WorkSafe RTO
  • ❌ Courses shorter than 6 hours
  • ❌ Advertisements for “cheap” White Card courses under $30
