HLTAID012 First Aid Training for Childcare Professionals (Parramatta)

HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting course is designed for early childhood
educators, teachers, out-of-school hours (OOSH) staff, and childcare professionals. The program addresses
child-specific emergencies — including anaphylaxis, asthma, choking, and common injuries —
with a strong focus on high-risk scenarios. Delivery combines self-paced e-Learning with practical, face-to-face
training to ensure real-world capability.

Meets the ACECQA requirements for anaphylaxis, asthma and first aid training for educators and carers.
CPR is delivered to current Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

Nationally Accredited Course

This course is tailored for anyone working with infants and children. It covers child-specific first aid in key
areas (anaphylaxis, asthma, airway management, injury care and resuscitation) alongside duty-of-care and
reporting obligations relevant to education and care settings. Assessment includes practical demonstrations,
scenario activities and a short written component. You will be required to demonstrate CPR on a manikin
on the floor

What You’ll Learn (HLTAID012)

✔ Recognise and assess an emergency situation
✔ Ensure safety for self, bystanders and casualty
✔ Assess the casualty and determine required first aid response
✔ Seek assistance from emergency services
✔ Perform CPR in accordance with ARC guidelines (infant/child/adult)
✔ Provide first aid in line with established principles (education & care context)
✔ Ensure the child feels safe, secure and supported; obtain consent where possible
✔ Use available resources/equipment to make the casualty comfortable
✔ Operate first aid equipment per manufacturer instructions
✔ Monitor casualty condition and respond appropriately
✔ Accurately convey incident details to emergency services
✔ Report incidents per workplace procedures; complete documentation/incident forms
✔ Notify serious incidents to regulatory authorities where required; inform parents/caregivers
✔ Maintain privacy/confidentiality of records and information

Assessment Method

✔ Written knowledge checks (online &/or in-class)
✔ Practical first aid demonstrations (including infant/child scenarios)
✔ Realistic scenario-based evaluations

Physical Requirements

✔ Ability to perform a minimum of 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor
(as per ARC guidelines). If a learner is unable to meet mandatory physical requirements, a Certificate of
Attendance may be issued instead of a Statement of Attainment.
